Nancy Alcock was surrounded by supporters at Little Place by the Lights as she ushered in the election results giving her the mandate as Huntsville’s next mayor.
Alcock has been on council since 2014, serving as a Town and District councillor. She has also been the chair of both the Huntsville and District planning committees. She has served as chair of Huntsville’s development services committee for the past two terms and served as chair of the District community and planning committee during this past term of council.
Alcock was also chair of the District housing task force and sat on the task force during her previous term of council. She was also on the Board of Directors of the Muskoka Watershed Council as a District of Muskoka representative.
Alcock thanked her team and supporters for helping her throughout the campaign. She said running for mayor was a very different experience than running as a councillor. She thanked several individuals, particularly seventeen-year-old Rylind Davis who worked hard on her campaign and canvassed by her side. She told those present that his efforts gave her faith in the younger generation and ended her speech by thanking outgoing Mayor Karin Terziano for her support and service.
Alcock won by an additional 1,171 (with a total of 3,379 votes) compared to runner-up Stephen Hernen who got 2,208 votes. She told Huntsville Doppler she was surprised with the number of votes she won.
“It was one hell of a race. We all worked really hard, we truly did,” she said of the other candidates. “I’d go to a door and both Tim and Steve, they had been there and we challenged each other, and I think that was really good for Huntsville.”
Asked why she thinks she ultimately got elected, Alcock found it difficult to talk about herself but ventured that people want a council that will work well together and tackle the issues facing the community. She said she works well with people, which seems to be an approach voters want.
Meeting with senior staff and members of Huntsville’s new council and working on housing as well as Huntsville’s budget and strategic plan will be among her first order of business.

Congratulations Nancy! I know you will do a great job for our community. And congratulatins to eveyone who put their name forward to run in this election. A great group was elected and the future of Huntsville looks bright!
So tired of these sore losers who are only promoting distrust in our electoral system, and democracy in general. Another sad example of US dysfunction and ‘conspiracy cult’ making its way north. Win with grace, lose with grace.
Well done Nance . Looks like a great Council Group !
Tim & Steve great civil campaigns run by You . Keep up Your Great contributions to the Community .
Congratulations Nancy on your victory. We have been with you from the start. You are definitely the most qualified candidate and we know you will lead Huntsville into the future very ably.
You also have some great people to work with. Kudos all around!
All I can say it was the worst case of election fraud I have ever witnessed and been a part of.
Alcock was responsable for the attacks on property owners as counsel too choose to ignore the rules and break the laws of Canada.
Shawn and I received the exact same votes yet we run separate campaigns. The numbers don’t add up and Elections Canada has been called in to investigate the irregularities. I’m distrusted and appalled by these results.
Congratulations, Nancy, I am so happy for you and that my vote counted.
So happy for you and for us Nancy. We know the council , led by you, will be working hard for all of us.
