A look out the window will tell you that winter weather has arrived. A local school, which is all about being outdoors as much as possible, in all seasons, has created an event to inspire people to get outside while also supporting a couple of local families.
The Muskoka Highlands Academy is hosting a family-friendly, Amazing Race-style event. People can participate in exchange for help supporting two local families that the school has sponsored through Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions. When registering, participants will have access to a list of items the families have requested and can choose one to purchase.
Prizes are up for grabs, including the grand prize of four full-day lift tickets and four full-day rentals at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area.
“We just want to inspire people to get outside and enjoy what is right here in our backyard,” says Muskoka Highlands Academy founder Sheena Repath. “We chose some amazing trails and places around the community and with our grade five to eight class have crafted some awesome super-fun activities to just get out with your family and friends, have some laughs, and maybe find a different way to engage with the outdoors. Hopefully by exposing people to different places, over the course of the winter they’ll be inspired to get outside, try something a little different and a little new, all while helping us give back to the community and support those most in need.”
The event will be held on Nov. 27, starting at 9:30 a.m. and wrapping up at around 12:30 p.m. and will feature fun challenges at each location—Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area, Echo Valley Nature & Bike Trails, Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve, and Deerhurst Resort, with the finish line at Grandview Mark O’Meara.
The activities are outdoors so dress for weather, and be prepared to drive around to a few different locations. There will be bonfires and hot cocoa at the finish line at Grandview.
