Huntsville’s latest community mural is waiting on the Town Hall steps for you to add your strokes.
The annual Community Mural Festival, hosted by the Downtown Huntsville BIA, kicked off yesterday (July 3) with eager passersby making their mark on the mural created by local artist and Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery founder Gerry Lantaigne. This year’s mural will be a large-scale replica of a stamp issued in 1977 that depicts Tom Thomson’s April in Algonquin Park. The stamp was issued as a se-tenant pair (two stamps of different designs connected side-by-side) with another 12-cent stamp featuring his painting Autumn Birches. Once it is complete and has had time to cure, the mural will hang on the outside of Huntsville’s post office.
At the same time as the community mural is being painted, two other artists – Marc Sorozan and Tim Webb – will be creating their own murals to add to the outdoor gallery.
The festival runs until July 16, but the murals may be completed sooner. If you want to add to the community mural and include your name in the book of artists, be sure to do it soon.
