Art Fx is a year-long series on Huntsville Doppler featuring Huntsville-area visual artists.
“Browns Barn” is a 14″ x 12″ acrylic on board which captures a piece of Huntsville history that no longer exists.
Artist Ken Biggs used to pass the barn, which was located on West Browns Road, on his way home from town.
“This day the sun just caught it in a way that made me stop and take a picture,” he says. “I painted it in my studio over the next few days only to find out that it was torn down shortly thereafter (August 2020). A new home is presently being built on the site. So, this painting is now a true historic capture of Huntsville’s past.”
“Browns Barn” is available for $225, framed.
About the artist:
Ken Biggs has been painting seriously since he retired a few years ago but has loved cottaging, camping, and tripping in Muskoka and Algonquin Park all his life.
“My parents built a cottage on Lake of Bays in 1956 and I have now been living here in Huntsville since 1985. I love ‘plein air’ painting with my fellow artists but usually finish things up in my studio at home,” he notes.
Ken has shown his works at Partners Hall in Huntsville, the Baysville Walkabout, Cedar Creek, and also with the Muskoka Palette Packers, and presently has hangings at the Moose Cafe, Slice of Muskoka, and the Two Horse Gallery.

Love those old barns. Without their animals and the farmer or someone who cares about their upkeep they rapidly deteriorate. I remember often passing this barn, surrounded by the fields and its herd of cattle. Glad there is at least this memorial to it and to the era.

Well done Ken. You’re a man of many talents. I remember back in the day I couldn’t get a win on the squash court when we played.
Keep up the great work and great timing on this one!

Goodmorning. I noticed that have feature representing Huntsville landscapes by local artists
While I paint mostly portraits and figurative works and am represented by a local on line galler as you can see on my website I have done a couple of landscape paintings from my residence in Hidden Valley that offer spectacular views over Pen Lake at Sunrise and the forests beyond
You are welcome to feature any of them
