The Towns of Bracebridge and Huntsville have been approved for funding in excess of $1.1 million for the replacement of the Stephenson Road 1 Bridge.
On April 10, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Jeff Leal, announced that 55 communities will receive support from the province through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to build and upgrade local infrastructure.
Graydon Smith, Mayor for the Town of Bracebridge expressed his gratitude to the province stating, “We are very pleased that this important project has been the recipient of significant funding from the Province.” said Smith. “Bridge replacements are complex, expensive endeavours that are difficult for municipalities to tackle on their own. This financial assistance will help not only this project, but frees up dollars for future capital needs elsewhere.”
Scott Aitchison, Mayor for the Town of Huntsville stated, “I want to thank Mayor Smith and the Town of Bracebridge for their partnership on the replacement of this vital piece of infrastructure. This most recent funding from OCIF is a great help to Huntsville as we work to fully implement a sustainable infrastructure plan.”
The Stephenson Road 1 Bridge is an important asset to both Bracebridge and Huntsville as it is relied on by first responders and serves as a crucial piece of transportation infrastructure for area residents. The bridge lies on the boundary road between both municipalities.
Replacement of the Stephenson Road 1 Bridge began in July 2016 and was substantially completed prior to the end of the year. Approved funding from yesterday’s announcement will offset approximately 90% of the project costs incurred by the Towns.
