From the Town of Huntsville
With the urgent need for family physicians in Huntsville, Huntsville Council supported the development of a Physician Incentive Program (report DEV-2024-51) on May 27, 2024. Within this program, up to 10 family physicians will be offered the following in exchange for five years of service:
- $60k for taking over a family practice, and up to $80k for those setting up a new family practice
- Muskoka Heritage Place and Pioneer Village one-year family pass
- Family Skate/Swim one-year membership
Community Supported Incentives – Will you help be part of the cure?
In addition to the Town’s financial contribution, the Huntsville community has come together through businesses, organizations, groups, and residents to offer additional incentives to attract physicians, including financial contributions, in-kind support, and donations. These include things like memberships, discounts, and restaurant vouchers, to name a few.
Before we finalize the package, we wanted to make sure we reached out to you, our community, to see if there was anything else you would like to contribute to enhance the package!
“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support for our Physician Incentive Program – local businesses, groups, and individuals have been incredible in contributing generously,” said Councillor Scott Morrison.
“If you are a resident, business, or organization who wants to support healthcare in our community – this is your chance. Your support makes all the difference!” echoed Councillor Bob Stone.
If you would like to contribute to the physician incentive program, visit Huntsville.ca/DoctorsWanted and submit your Community Participation Form. Participating individuals and businesses will be provided with the opportunity for public recognition on the program’s web page.
To chat about participating, reach out to Huntsville Town Councillors: Scott Morrison at 705-783-8199 or [email protected] or Bob Stone at 705-783-5818 or [email protected].

As a Dermatologist, who has helped out in Huntsville for about a decade, I can assure people in Huntsville that they are blessed by very dedicated and knowledgable family doctors. Although incentives may be necessary to recruit new doctors, it is like a retail store, giving new customers a discount and not recognizing their long-term customers. There’s no better way to insult your long-term customers
In my opinion, it would be very wise to recognize those “who brought you to the dance“.

An earlier commenter seems to be missing the point. Incentives to attract new participants or to stimulate new sales have nothing to do with past or existing participants and past sales. This incentive to attract new health care professionals to our town makes sense, especially if they won‘t come otherwise. No one is offering me any incentives, as an existing resident. But I am fine if the town offers incentives to attract certain (and certainly needed) new residents.
