After successfully winning a Silver Medal at the 2022 U21 Men’s World Field Lacrosse Championship in Limerick, Ireland, this past summer, Caleb Creasor was invited to attend and compete in this year’s tryouts for the 2023 Seniors Men’s Team for Team Canada.
Trials were held in Oshawa on October 14 – 16, 2022. Team Canada will announce the selections for the team in June or July 2023.
Caleb told Huntsville Doppler that the tryouts were an exciting weekend of stellar gameplay. As a goalie, Caleb, the former Huntsville Hawk, has made a steady ascent through amateur lacrosse, privileged to play world-class Lacrosse against preeminent athletes in teams from around the globe.
The Oshawa tryouts were singularly exciting for Caleb. He got to meet advanced professionals such as Brodie Merrell, renowned LSM – Long Stick Middle, for the San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League, and Jeff Teat, Cornell Senior attackman in the Premier League. Caleb described meeting professional-level sportspersons on a more personal level, both inspiring and motivating.
Creasor is in the final year of pre-med studies at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. He has applied to several Medical Schools in Canada and the US, in pursuit of his professional aspiration to become an orthopedic surgeon. He is the senior goalie for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, with a .538 record and seven saves.
His experience in the World Field Lacrosse Championship in Limerick, Ireland, in 2022 was far better than he could imagine. Caleb states, “All the guys were super passionate.” For the ten days of the tournament, despite playing seven highly competitive games, he managed a little time to explore the Irish countryside, visiting the Cliffs of Moher —one of Ireland’s favourite tourist areas.
With the decision for positions for Team Canada 2023 still pending, Caleb will be finishing off his studies and preparing for the return of the Lacrosse season in spring. He does volunteer work and shadows surgeons at the hospital, learning post-surgical protocols and professional attitudes toward operative care and patient recovery.
The 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s World Championship will take place in San Diego, California, USA, from June 21 to July 1, 2023. The senior men’s team is open to all ages, so the caliber of play and selection processes will be quite vigorous. Caleb will be eligible after this year’s competition to turn professional if he chooses to.
