Eliza Waters, a milliner in Huntsville and the second youngest daughter of John Frederick Waters and his wife Elizabeth, purchased Lots 9, 10 and 11 of Plan 7 on Hanes Street in 1902. Frederick and Elizabeth Waters had been living with their family on the family farm, Bay Meadows, on Fairy Lake. When Elizabeth died in 1910, the family decided to move into town and build on the Hanes Street property. From the new house, Frederick, the oldest son, went by boat, back and forth to the farm, Bay Meadows.
The house passed from Eliza to her brother Stephen in 1924. He worked the Bay Meadows farm and guided in Algonquin Park. When he died in 1928 he left the house for the use of all the remaining family during their lifetimes. After their deaths, the house passed to his niece Patty Swann, wife of Albert Swann who came from England as a Bernardo Home Boy to work on the Bay Meadows Farm in 1904, when he was seven years old. Albert and Patty had two sons, Fred and Owen. In 1938 the house was substantially renovated by Patty and Albert. In 1960 it was changed to a duplex; the stairs were moved and the entrances were altered.
The house was deeded to Owen in 1970. He severed the lot on the waterfront from the original property and built himself a home. When Patty died in 1990 the original house was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Kenton Martin.
