When schools return this September, six local students will be better prepared to pursue their artistic passions thanks to the support of Huntsville Festival of the Arts through their annual scholarship program.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The program aims to support young people who are, or plan to continue, studies in the performing arts (music, theatre, dance) and to foster the development of performing arts talent in our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years funds have been offered to various age groups. Since 2012, the Festival decided to direct its scholarship funds to the Senior graduating students. New to this year, HfA offered both a Junior (16 & under) & Senior (17 & older) performing arts scholarship. Since its inception in 1997, 75 local youth have received financial support from Huntsville Festival of the Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s Senior scholarship was awarded to Briar Summers, who will be continuing studies in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Briar receives an award of $1,000 towards the cost of lessons throughout university. She will be starting her Level 10 piano and continuing to work on Level 9 Theory (Harmony). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junior scholarship winners each receive an award of $250. The 2021 recipients are:
– Oscar Finn who will be saving to pursue a post-secondary education in music;
– Makena Bijl who is aiming to complete her Royal Conservatory Level 8 piano certification;
– Juniper Nuedling-Black to support her music lessons, as well as the coaching she is receiving to become a teacher-apprentice for younger students;
– Jonah Gontier who will be using the support to directly help cover the fees associated with his many music lessons, including guitar, fiddle, and piano; and
– Jayden Smith who will be purchasing a drumset to enable at-home practicing for further musical development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe believe that it is our responsibility to support and reinvest in the community through expanded outreach, educational programming, and the scholarship programs,” said Dan Watson, executive director of Huntsville Festival of the Arts. \u201cWe have incredibly talented young people in this region and we are honoured to assist them as they develop their skills even further.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of these talented youth will be playing as part of Music at Noon on July 13 at Morgan House B&B. Capacity is 25. While this outdoor concert is free, registration is required and can be made at https:\/\/huntsvillefestival.ca\/event\/music-at-noon-2\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
