Frank Kelly served in his home country\u2019s Salvation Army and was posted to Huntsville in 1909 as a staff captain with the Army\u2019s branch of immigration. Kelly quickly fell in love with Huntsville to the point that, when the Salvation Army was intent upon transferring him to another location, he joined the local Methodist Church to put an end to the possibility of moving.<\/p>\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank Kelly was a man of many talents including being an accomplished baritone singer and a fine bass player. These musical abilities connected Kelly to two of Huntsville\u2019s major entertainment scenes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, while working for the Canada Life Insurance Company, he wrote the first group life insurance policy for the Anglo Canadian Leather Company, then began working for the leather company as a purchasing agent and, ultimately, became the premier bass player in the esteemed Anglo Canadian Leather Company Band.  Secondly, Kelly was featured as both an instrumentalist and singer at Bigwin Inn on Lake of Bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of all his varied endeavours, Frank Kelly\u2019s foremost accomplishments occurred in the realm of politics. He was elected as a Huntsville town councillor from 1925-31, became Huntsville\u2019s mayor from 1932-35, was a member of the provincial legislature as a Liberal MPP from 1936-45, and again donned the mayor\u2019s collar from 1946-48. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An interesting accomplishment of Kelly\u2019s during his political career involved his successful lobbying of the federal government for the erection of the Huntsville Town Hall. In addition, he and George Paget retrieved the clock from Toronto\u2019s Union Station and had it mounted at the peak of the new Town Hall \u2014 a piece of history that remains ticking up to this very day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"704\" height=\"336\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/10\/Town-Hall-under-construction-clock-tower-header.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-76337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/10\/Town-Hall-under-construction-clock-tower-header-630x301.jpg 630w, https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/10\/Town-Hall-under-construction-clock-tower-header.jpg 704w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Construction of Huntsville&#8217;s Town Hall was completed in 1927. Its clock, which came from Toronto&#8217;s Union Station, was officially started at 11 a.m. on October 11, 1927.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelly also partnered with another of Huntsville\u2019s prominent citizens, H. E. Rice.
