{"id":97351,"date":"2021-05-06T12:28:23","date_gmt":"2021-05-06T16:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=97351"},"modified":"2021-05-06T12:28:23","modified_gmt":"2021-05-06T16:28:23","slug":"accessibility-enhancements-at-port-sydney-beach-to-include-handrails-into-the-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/accessibility-enhancements-at-port-sydney-beach-to-include-handrails-into-the-water\/","title":{"rendered":"Accessibility enhancements at Port Sydney Beach to include handrails into the water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A little ingenuity, and the will to investigate it, can go a long way.<\/p>\n<p>Huntsville municipal staff have taken to heart a suggestion made by a local resident which would enhance accessibility even further at the Port Sydney Beach.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>As part of the enhancements already planned for this year, staff also investigated the possibility of extending a handrail into the water.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re looking to install a handrail system out about 30 feet,&#8221; explained Huntsville director of operations and protective services Steve Hernen. &#8220;Basically two parallel bars spaced about 34 inches.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said the handrails will enable someone with mobility issues to get into water that&#8217;s about three-feet deep, which they can then swim away from.
