{"id":97146,"date":"2021-05-02T09:58:38","date_gmt":"2021-05-02T13:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=97146"},"modified":"2021-05-02T09:58:38","modified_gmt":"2021-05-02T13:58:38","slug":"art-fx-18-catherine-o-mara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/art-fx-18-catherine-o-mara\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Fx #18: &#8220;A Day in May&#8221; by Catherine O&#8217;Mara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Art Fx is a year-long series on Huntsville Doppler featuring Huntsville-area visual artists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A Day in May&#8221; is an original egg tempera on birch panel measuring 60&#8243; x30&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Last May as the reality of COVID restrictions meant the cancellation of art tours, my garden got some<br \/>\nmuch needed attention and I truly enjoyed the beautiful spring we had in 2020,&#8221; says artist Catherine O&#8217;Mara. &#8220;Inspired by one of those<br \/>\nfine days is &#8216;A Day in May&#8217;. After this year of isolation I am anticipating the return of spring and these<br \/>\nwild chokeberry blossoms against a clear blue Muskoka sky.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Egg tempera is a classic painting technique that reached its peak in the Renaissance. Tempera fell out of favour with the development of oil paints, however a revival of this labour-intensive practice of creating both paints and panels has been embraced by many contemporary painters.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine has been working with egg tempera for 25 years, sometimes taking a more experimental<br \/>\napproach by adding a relief when preparing the panels.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_97262\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-97262\" class=\"size-full wp-image-97262\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2021\/05\/18-Catherine-OMara-A-Day-in-May-full.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"372\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-97262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;A Day in May&#8221;
