DON\u2019T RESCUE YOUR PARTNER<\/strong><\/p>\n Don\u2019t rescue your bridge partner, even if you think he is on thin ice! It is usually a disaster and you will both end up treading water!<\/p>\n The bidding has progressed. Partner is at three hearts when the opponents double him for penalty. You are void in hearts, and probably the heart suit is poorly split. You don\u2019t have many points but you do have a long club suit. Maybe the little voice whispers in your ear that partner may have some clubs and that would be a better place to play. Do you bid four clubs to rescue partner? If you do the opponents will probably double for penalty again and you\u2019re now a level higher. And of course, partner is void in clubs (after all he had so many hearts in his hand). I once played against a man who tried repeatedly to rescue his partner from a doubled bid. Every time he changed suits, we doubled again. His major problem was that he was just up too high. He went down 2200 points.If you do yield to temptation and try to rescue partner, make sure that your suit is substantial.
