<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\nUsually the club sells them by the dozen, but last year they decided to turn their annual fundraiser into Perogy Fest, a themed dinner night full of delicious food, beer, and dancing, with over 150 people in attendance. While it was meant to happen again this fall, COVID-19 restrictions changed the club\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n
However, they still were able to get together, socially distanced and wearing masks, in order to make perogies to once again sell by the dozen.<\/p>\n
“With all of the restrictions we went back to our roots, getting together and making delicious perogies as a fundraiser and being sure to have fun while doing it,” said Rotary Club of North Muskoka president Cara Schiedel. “We always are indebted to Nick and Vivian Paroschy, our perogy leaders, without whom there would be no perogies.”<\/p>\n
The club made more than 200 pounds of perogies, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Huntsville Satellite Club (a.k.a. People of Action). It was the first time the two clubs have collaborated on a fundraiser.<\/p>\n
“We are always looking for ways to support our community and fellow Rotarians,” said Jennifer Jerrett of the satellite club.<\/p>\n
They sold 350 dozen perogies at $8 per dozen\u2014with a discount for multiple orders\u2014for a total of more than $2,000.<\/p>\n
In the past, funds raised from the perogy sales has gone towards The Table, the Kids to Camp initiative, the Summer Reading Program at the Huntsville library and other initiatives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe really want to branch out and support mental health initiatives for children and youth so this year\u2019s perogy sales will be going towards that,” said Schiedel.<\/p>\n
