A flag honoring the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope was raised at Town Hall today.<\/p>\n

Although the local run cannot take place this year due to COVID-19, people are encouraged to fundraise and participate in their own way and wherever they choose\u2014walk, run, dance, hike, paddle, or quietly contemplate Fox’s legacy. Details are available at terryfox.org.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Local coordinator Sharon Stahls is a retired principal who spent more than 34 years educating Muskoka\u2019s youth about Terry Fox.<\/p>\n

If you walk or run on Sunday, Stahls invites you to take a moment to reflect and think about Terry Fox and what he stood for.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s still just as important as ever to share Terry\u2019s story. Cancer isn\u2019t going away just because of COVID,” said Stahls.<\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t tech savvy but still want to donate, you can contact Stahls at sharonstahls@gmail.com to organize a porch pick-up.<\/p>\n

“Terry possessed all of the character traits that we want our kids to have when they grow up: passion, perseverance, and empathy,” said Stahls. “Terry, God bless his soul, would want us to keep plugging away and raising money for cancer research, even with COVID happening. His mission is so important.”<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking to buy this year\u2019s t-shirts, Steve Ainger will be selling them at Bullock’s Independent on Friday, September 17 from 11-1 and Stahls will be selling them outside the Algonquin Theatre on Saturday, September 19 from 11-2.<\/p>\n
