An inquest into the death of Mark Lalonde has been scheduled for September 14, 2020.<\/p>\n

Lalonde, 38, died on August 1, 2017 while working at a construction site in Huntsville. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act<\/cite>.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

In a written statement issued on August 2, 2017, the Ministry of Labour (MOL) noted that Lalonde was working for Landscaping Muskoka doing work for homeowners in the Huntsville area on August 1, 2017 when the fatal accident occurred. “It was reported to MOL that the worker was cutting stone and sustained a fatal injury,” read the statement.<\/p>\n

Lalonde and his family had just purchased a home in Burk\u2019s Falls, according to a GoFundMe campaign established at the time to help the family through their loss.<\/p>\n

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Lalonde’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.<\/p>\n

The inquest is expected to last three days and hear from six witnesses.<\/p>\n

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2020, at the Coroners Courts, Courtroom A, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will preside as inquest coroner and Jai Dhar will be counsel to the coroner.<\/p>\n

The Coroners Courts remain closed to visitors for health and safety reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the courts remain open for inquest-related matters. Inquests will be conducted by video conference. Members of the public who wish to view the proceedings can do so live at the link provided below.<\/p>\n
