{"id":89052,"date":"2020-08-31T09:06:13","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T13:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=89052"},"modified":"2020-08-31T14:51:24","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T18:51:24","slug":"legion-fundraising-dinners-resume-for-take-out-only-on-september-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/legion-fundraising-dinners-resume-for-take-out-only-on-september-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Legion fundraising dinners resume for take-out only on September 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The popular Huntsville Legion dinners are back\u2014for take-out only\u2014starting on Tuesday, September 1.<\/p>\n<p>The Legion hopes to get back to a regular schedule for the dinners, which were on hiatus due to COVID-19, with funds raised going back into the Legion\u2019s general account.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The food is so good and it brings people to the local legion,&#8221; said vice president and membership chair, Mandi Boothby. &#8220;These events help keep the legion doors open.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has &#8220;pretty much brought the Legion to a halt via fundraising and getting to see fellow comrades,&#8221; added Boothby. &#8220;Until the numbers go up for gatherings we will struggle to open. We still do dinners and gift bags for our veterans and seniors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Boothby says that when they\u2019re able to reopen, the sports, dances and Catch the Ace events will return.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Tina Hamilton and her crew have a roast beef dinner planned for the September 1 take-out option, as it\u2019s one of the most popular choices according to Legion guests. The meal will include roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and dessert for just $10.<\/p>\n<p>Although reservations are not required, they are highly recommended in order to secure a meal. Email huntsvillelegion@cogeco.net to reserve.<\/p>\n<p>The next dinner will be on October 6.<\/p>\n<p>As of September 2, Boothby will be taking Legion dues at the branch. Hours will be posted on the Legion&#8217;s Facebook page, on Doppler, and on the building\u2019s front door. Both cash and cheque will be accepted. The $60 membership dues can be paid online at legion.ca or in person until November 30, 2020.
