Graduating Huntsville High School students will have two new scholarships available to them thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

The Brenda Wainman Goulet Memorial Scholarship will award $500 annually to a graduating student taking Visual Arts who will continue in the arts at a post-secondary institution. The award recipient will be selected by the HHS Visual Arts Department based on the student’s body of work over their secondary school career, having been acknowledged as having a superior gift of expression and artistic flair.<\/p>\n

Brenda Wainman Goulet was a graduate of Ontario College of Art and Design and over a career spanning 30 years was recognized as a celebrated sculptor of international acclaim. She was a founding member of the Artists of the Limberlost and a member of the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour (MAST) as well as Huntsville Festival of the Arts. She died in January 2018<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka’s Volunteer Appreciation Scholarship will acknowledge “the tangible impact our youth can have on our community by serving beyond themselves, providing ongoing and meaningful altruistic volunteerism,” according to club president, Martin Mann.<\/p>\n

This scholarship will award $500 annually to a graduating student who has “shown by example an ongoing willingness to go above and beyond not just volunteering in their school, but in their community and beyond,” said Mann. The award recipient will be selected by the HHS Awards Committee based on the extent and variety of the student’s body of volunteerism over their secondary school career. The scholarship will be assigned to the students selected post-secondary studies at a recognized institution.<\/p>\n

Both awards will be matched by Kiwanis Foundation of Canada this year, added Mann, giving each student $1,000 to apply toward post-secondary studies.<\/p>\n
