{"id":85536,"date":"2020-05-15T17:08:31","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T21:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=85536"},"modified":"2020-05-15T17:17:36","modified_gmt":"2020-05-15T21:17:36","slug":"if-you-have-even-one-of-these-covid-19-symptoms-seek-assessment-and-testing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/if-you-have-even-one-of-these-covid-19-symptoms-seek-assessment-and-testing\/","title":{"rendered":"If you have even one of these COVID-19 symptoms, seek assessment and testing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who exhibits even one symptom of COVID-19\u2014and there are more than you might be aware of\u2014should seek assessment for the disease.<\/p>\n<p>In a media briefing today, Dr. Charles Gardner, the medical officer of health for Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reiterated that it&#8217;s important for anyone with symptoms to seek testing so that they have a better picture of how prevalent the disease is in our area and can assist those who do test positive with self-isolation measures.<\/p>\n<p>Although testing had been prioritized in the past, there is currently capacity in the system for more testing.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p> Also today, the Muskoka COVID-19 Assessment Centres released an update encouraging that individuals seek testing if they exhibit symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below, contact your doctor or nurse practitioner&#8217;s office, or if you don&#8217;t have a primary care provider you can book an appointment by calling the assessment centres in Muskoka, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. \u2013 5:00 p.m. at 1-888-383-7009. (Note that the Muskoka assessment centres will be closed on Victoria Day, Monday, May 18.) The assessment centres are not open for walk-in visits.<\/p>\n<p>Common symptoms of COVID-19 are:<br \/>\n\u2022 Fever (temperature of 37.8\u00b0C or greater)<br \/>\n\u2022 New or worsening cough<br \/>\n\u2022 Shortness of breath<\/p>\n<p>Other symptoms of COVID-19 can include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Sore throat<br \/>\n\u2022 Difficulty swallowing<br \/>\n\u2022 New smell or taste disorder(s)<br \/>\n\u2022 Nausea\/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain<br \/>\n\u2022 Runny nose or nasal congestion in the absence of an underlying reason for these symptoms such as seasonal allergies or post-nasal drip<\/p>\n<p>Other signs of COVID-19 can include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Clinical or radiological evidence of pneumonia<\/p>\n<p>Atypical symptoms\/signs of COVID-19 should be considered, particularly in children, older persons, and people living with a developmental disability. Atypical symptoms can include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Unexplained fatigue\/malaise<br \/>\n\u2022 Delirium (acutely altered mental status and inattention)<br \/>\n\u2022 Unexplained or increased number of falls<br \/>\n\u2022 Acute functional decline<br \/>\n\u2022 Exacerbation of chronic conditions<br \/>\n\u2022 Chills<br \/>\n\u2022 Headaches<br \/>\n\u2022 Croup<br \/>\n\u2022 Conjunctivitis<\/p>\n<p>If you are tested, you can check your results from home on the Province&#8217;s COVID-19 Test Results Viewer.
