Huntsville’s many volunteers were celebrated at a Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer Muskoka appreciation social on December 17. Partners Hall was filled with lively chatter and delicious appetizers courtesy of event co-sponsor 3 Guys and a Stove. Soapstones provided gift bags and free hand massages for attendees.<\/p>\n
Mayor Scott Aitchison thanked the volunteers present, who represented many of Huntsville’s organizations and events. “One of the most enjoyable things about being mayor is bragging about what goes on in Huntsville. One of the biggest reasons that Huntsville is so great is due to the love its people have for community. It creates the vibrancy that makes a town a town and not just a collection of buildings. I appreciate what all of you contribute.”<\/p>\n
Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kelly Haywood added that the goal of Volunteer Muskoka, now entering its second year, is to “appreciate and recognize local volunteers and ensure your skills are utilized in the best capacity. We want to organize volunteers and volunteer opportunities to make it easier for you to choose what you want to be involved in.” The launch of a new website, www.volunteermuskoka.ca, in the spring will help with that, she added.<\/p>\n
While most volunteers don’t do what they do for the recognition, one noted, “it’s nice to know that someone notices.”<\/p>\n
