{"id":84247,"date":"2020-04-11T05:24:02","date_gmt":"2020-04-11T09:24:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=84247"},"modified":"2020-04-13T21:25:28","modified_gmt":"2020-04-14T01:25:28","slug":"province-strengthening-victim-services-support-during-covid-19-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/province-strengthening-victim-services-support-during-covid-19-outbreak\/","title":{"rendered":"Province strengthening victim services support during COVID-19 outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>A message from the office of MPP Norm Miller<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ontario is taking emergency action to address the recent spike in domestic violence reported by victim services organizations during the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>The government of Ontario is providing an emergency payment of more than $2.7 million to support services for victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes in response to the evolving public health crisis and challenges victim service providers are facing.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this one-time funding, the District of Parry Sound Victim Crisis Assistance and Referral Service will receive $28,500 and Muskoka Victim Services will receive $25,750, both in addition to their annual funding allocations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Staying home is unfortunately not always the safest option in certain households and sadly a recent increase in domestic violence has been reported to front-line victim service organizations,&#8221; said Attorney General Downey.<\/p>\n<p>This additional one-time emergency payment will help more than 50 community agencies across Ontario, including victim crisis assistance organizations, Indigenous organizations and those based in rural areas, stay operational and accessible to victims during the public health crisis. Funds will help front-line staff respond to challenges caused by the COVID-19 crisis and enhance access to immediate supports for victims, including extended hotels stays, and transportation and meal vouchers available through the Victim Quick Response Program Plus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We recognize that the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic and job losses has exacerbated the situation for people living with a violent partner or family member.
