Students often are equally as eager \u2013 sometimes more so \u2013 to help people both in their own communities and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>At Huntsville High School, the Interact Club gets involved with the larger community through volunteer work and fundraising in support of a cause.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong> <broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe meet once a week to plan events and fundraisers for a cause we\u2019ve chosen to support,\u201d said club president, Elora Weiler. \u201cAnd we volunteer in the community. We helped Rotary with the Santa Claus Parade and sorted food bank donations to the Salvation Army.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recent club fundraisers included a bake sale at Halloween and a hot chocolate and apple cider stand with proceeds from both going to Syrian Refugee Sponsorship (SRS) Huntsville. Weiler estimates they\u2019ve raised about $300 so far this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Interact Club is planning a cookie sale to purchase Christmas presents for children in need, and they have plans for a community fundraiser in February. \u201cWe are planning a big dinner with Me to We, the Youth Council, and SPAR (the student parliament) that will have a penny auction, a silent auction, and a live auction with all of the money being donated to SRS Huntsville. We\u2019ll be looking for donations from local businesses for the auctions,\u201d said Weiler. \u201cWe\u2019re still planning, but it will be open to the entire community.\u201d The dinner will be at the high school and the group is hoping to serve a Syrian-inspired meal cooked by the school\u2019s culinary department and they hope to have live music performed by students.<\/p>\n<p>The Interact Club is open to students in all grades, although most are in grades 11 and 12, and the club receives support from the Rotary Club of Huntsville.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore people are getting involved and anyone can join.
