What is Giving Tuesday? It is a global day of giving. After the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a time to celebrate and encourage activities that support charities and non-profits. Whether it\u2019s making a donation, volunteering time, helping a neighbor or spreading the word, Giving Tuesday is a movement for everyone who wants to give something back.<\/p>\n
This year YWCA Muskoka is asking for their donors to support the next Power of Being a Girl\u2122 conference in 2016.<\/p>\n
As part of YWCA Canada\u2019s commitment to violence prevention initiatives for girls and young women, Power of Being a Girl\u2122 is a signature leadership conference for girls ages 12-17, usually hosted at a local high school. This unique program responds to individual community needs and is coordinated by local YWCA Member Associations.<\/p>\n
Topics may include: Self-esteem, Body Image, Healthy relationships, Violence prevention, Leadership, Bullying, Internet Safety for Girls, Career Choices, Diversity & Inclusion, Sexual Health, Substance Abuse.<\/p>\n
Inspirational speakers, local mentors and a set of plenary and break-out sessions round out each conference agenda based on community specific needs.<\/p>\n
Power of Being a Girl\u2122 offers a day of fun in a safe, moderated environment with informative and educational programming, focusing on girls’ developmental needs to prevent violence in their lives while encouraging leadership in the planning and organization of the event. Girls leave the conference excited about what they learned, anxious to share with their friends and show an interest in attending other YWCA programs.<\/p>\n

11,000+ participants since its inception in 2006, currently running at over 25 YWCAs and YMCA-YWCA\u2019s in 8 provinces and 1 territory, 95% of participants say they will attend again, 96% of participants find the conference helpful.<\/p>\n
