Following a successful month of races, four of the cross-country teams from Huntsville High School are headed for the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) this Saturday.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

The Hoyas attended a pre-OFSAA race on Oct 3 in Sudbury. The Novice Girls team won the Girls 4000M Run with four team members finishing in the top ten: Mya Marshall placed third, Nadia Parson placed seventh<\/sup>, Paige Bennett placed eighth<\/sup>, Kaitlyn Watson placed ninth<\/sup>, Eden Bennett placed 11th<\/sup> and Mia Pitts placed 18th<\/sup>. The Senior Boys team placed third<\/sup> in the 6000M run.<\/p>\n

Individual results for racers that placed in the top ten were: Mark Cheek, first in his Para Mixed 3000M run; Chloe Punkari. fourth in the Junior Girls 5000M run; Emma Elliott, ninth<\/sup> in the Senior Girls 6000M run; and Cameron Heinz, seventh<\/sup> in the Senior Boys 6000M run.<\/p>\n

The Hoyas then headed to Little Lake Park on October 10 where the team was able to try out their race strategies and skills to perfect their running before the regional GBSSA meet. Team results placed Huntsville in first place for Novice Girls overall, with Mya Marshall placing fifth and Paige Bennett and Kaitlyn Watson also placing in the top ten with a ninth and tenth. The Novice Boys team placed third overall.<\/p>\n

The Junior Girls team placed second overall with Laura Yungblut placing ninth among the top ten finishers. The Senior Girls team placed fifth overall with Emma Elliott finishing in the top ten with a seventh place. And the Senior Boys team took first place overall as Cam Heinz took fifth place in the top ten finishers.<\/p>\n

On October 17, the Hoyas travelled to Sunnidale Park where the Novice Girls took first place overall with Mya Marshall taking fifth place and Paige Bennett taking ninth in the top ten. The Novice Boys team took third place with Ben Shearing and Sam Richter clearing the top ten finishers with a ninth and tenth placement respectively.<\/p>\n

The Junior Girls team placed second overall with Chloe Punkari placing fifth and Emily Angell taking tenth place. In individual results, for Emma Elliott placed seventh in the Senior Girls and Riley deGans took fourth place among the Senior Boys. The Senior Boys team grabbed first place overall.<\/p>\n

At the regional championships (GBSSA) on October 22 at Arrowhead Park, the Hoyas had its best showing of top ten finishers ever at the GBSSAs this year, said coach Pierre Mikhail. HHS had five teams compete and out of the five, four teams qualified for OFSAA with the Novice Girls and Senior Boys earning firsts and the Novice Boys and Junior Girls each earning second place. Mark Cheek won first place in the Para race as well.<\/p>\n
