{"id":76734,"date":"2019-11-02T04:58:50","date_gmt":"2019-11-02T08:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=76734"},"modified":"2019-11-02T05:04:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-02T09:04:49","slug":"athlete-of-the-week-eve-carreau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/athlete-of-the-week-eve-carreau\/","title":{"rendered":"Athlete of the Week: Eve Carreau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eve Carreau, a grade 10 cross-country runner from Rosseau Lake College, earned a spot on the starting line at the OFSAA provincial championships with a second place at the CISSA (Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association) cross-country running championships.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"69896\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Her coach, Jess Sheppard, said, &#8220;The goal was to race smart and be securely in the top five. Eve played it smart and relaxed on that crazy uphill, but I think there\u2019s a bit more in the tank.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This will be Carreau\u2019s second time competing at OFSAA for cross-country. Last year she placed 35th overall, so this year Carreau is attempting to improve her placing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019ve been running ever since my first race at the age of six,&#8221; said Carreau. &#8220;Every time I finish a race I get this amazing feeling of satisfaction and that\u2019s how I know gave it my all and left everything I had in me out in the trails or on the track. Even though the last 100m of the race should be the hardest and fastest time of the race for me it\u2019s the most exciting part.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Carreau\u2019s most memorable moment in running was at one of the pre-OFSAA races last year. &#8220;I came in fifth place with a super strong finish at the end,&#8221; she said. The awards that she is most prouf of in cross-country running are a silver medal in the 3000m race at the 2017 Nova Scotia track and field provincials and a gold medal finish at the 2018 CISAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to cross-country running, Carreau has also played soccer for the last eight years, most recently for the Rosseau Lake College Junior Varsity team and with the Huntsville Strikers as centre midfield. She also plays right or centre defence and has tried the keeper position as well.<\/p>\n<p>Carreau enjoys biking to and from her soccer practices and games so she has time to think about her game play. &#8220;I\u2019ve always thought of soccer as a sport where every single play I\u2019m in I can make a little goal for myself one at a time. This strategy has worked magic for me because at the end of the game I like to look back at my little goals I made for myself and how many of them I achieved and how many I didn\u2019t.&#8221; Her coaches throughout her soccer seasons have been supportive and encouraging by pushing her to do her best, she said. &#8220;I improved as a soccer player every single practice and game because of them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the winter season, when Carreau cannot be out on the trails or on the field, she plays hockey on the ice for the Huntsville Sting Midget Black team as a forward wing. &#8220;Every game starts at a tie and every period is a new game no matter what the score. The biggest thing I learned in hockey is if you don\u2019t shoot you don\u2019t score,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Carreau is an active athlete who challenges herself in every season. She also plays volleyball, rugby, and track and field. Keeping active and setting and achieving goals brings her joy.<\/p>\n<p>Carreau will compete at OFSAA on November 2 in Sudbury.
