Today, October 21, 2019, is federal election day! The polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Anyone inside the voting area when the doors close will be given a chance to cast their ballot.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Voters in Parry Sound-Muskoka will see the following five names (in alphabetical order) on the ballot: Scott Aitchison (Conservative), Trisha Cowie (Liberal), Gord Miller (Green), Dan Predie (an independent candidate from Parry Sound), and Tom Young (NDP).<\/p>\n

According to Kim Bordeleau, returning officer for this riding, there is no candidate running for the People\u2019s Party of Canada in Parry Sound-Muskoka since no nomination papers were submitted by the required deadline.<\/p>\n

“The process is that candidates running in our riding have to bring in a nomination paper to me and I certify their nomination that allows them to run, and there\u2019s a deadline… so the date came and went and we did not receive papers by the deadline from that party,” said Bordeleau.<\/p>\n

If you didn’t receive a voter information card, you can find your designated polling station on the Elections Canada website<\/u><\/a> or call 1-800-463-6868. Even if you have your voter information card, you will need to provide identification. Find a list of acceptable ID here<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you aren’t registered to vote, you can do that at your assigned polling station.<\/p>\n

The process of counting the votes will begin once the polling stations close. Bordeleau said some polls will likely have results within 15 minutes but the majority are expected to begin reporting about 45 minutes later. “And then the advanced polls, they usually take a little longer and they\u2019re usually at least an hour, they have quite a few ballots to count so that takes them at minimum probably an hour to an hour and a half.”<\/p>\n
