Deputy Mayor Karin Terziano had some good news for councillors at their September 23 regular council meeting.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

She said the municipality had officially received a letter confirming that the Town would get a significant amount of help to fund repairs to the Etwell bridge. “We have 50 per cent funding for that bridge from the federal government and 33 per cent from the provincial government… that’s some very good news for us.”<\/p>\n

The projected cost of rebuilding the bridge is about $760,000, according to director of protective services Steve Hernen. He said while the project will be going to tender, that sum includes things like consulting as well as design fees.<\/p>\n

With help from senior levels of government, Huntsville’s portion would be about $132,000, and any project overruns, said Hernen.<\/p>\n

The single-lane bridge crosses the Black Creek and was built in the 1800s. Parts of it are disintegrating and falling into the creek. The project will include rebuilding the bridge with modern materials and some realignment work on the road leading to and from the bridge, explained Hernen.<\/p>\n
