{"id":74442,"date":"2019-09-11T06:56:32","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T10:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=74442"},"modified":"2019-09-11T19:40:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T23:40:00","slug":"annual-terry-fox-run-is-this-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/annual-terry-fox-run-is-this-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"39th annual Terry Fox Run is this Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Almost 40 years after his attempt to run across Canada from coast-to-coast, Terry Fox\u2019s story is still being shared to bring awareness and support for cancer research through fun run events and fundraising.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Coordinator and host of the Huntsville Terry Fox Run, Sharon Stahls, has definitely seen gains made in cancer research since losing her mother to breast cancer when she was only 18 years old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If she was diagnosed today, she would probably be a survivor thanks to cancer research because of all of the money raised from Terry Fox events,&#8221; said Stahls. &#8220;The Terry Fox foundation donates $0.78 from every dollar raised towards cancer research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Overall, survival rates for those diagnosed with cancer have increased, up from 25 per cent in the 1940s to 60 per cent today.<\/p>\n<p>In 1980, Terry Fox said, &#8220;It took cancer to realize that being self-centered is not the way to live. The answer is to try and help others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So come out on September 15 for the 39th annual Huntsville Terry Fox Run.<\/p>\n<p>Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Huntsville High School parking lot, followed by a warm-up led by the Motivations Fitness team at 9:00 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Begin a family tradition for an important cause and share it from generation to generation. Run as a group for a team-building experience. Bring your dog on a leash to run or walk with you for the 10km distance. If you can\u2019t complete the full course, do what you can as everything you do will help others.<\/p>\n<p>If you are unable to make it to the event in Huntsville, put on your Terry Fox shirt and run or walk where you are to participate and to show your support. If you haven\u2019t purchased a t-shirt, they are available now at Scotiabank in the Huntsville Place Mall and they will be available at the run in the morning. T-shirts cost $20 for adult sizes and $15 for youth. Donations are also accepted online at <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.terryfox.ca\/registrant\/EventLocationHome.aspx?eventid=272065&amp;langpref=en-CA&amp;LocationID=272576&amp;Referrer=https%3a%2f%2fwww.google.com%2f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>terryfox.ca\/Huntsville<\/u><\/a> as well as at the event.<\/p>\n<p>The event is still in need of volunteers.
