{"id":7301,"date":"2015-11-20T16:20:22","date_gmt":"2015-11-20T21:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=7301"},"modified":"2015-11-24T08:26:46","modified_gmt":"2015-11-24T13:26:46","slug":"diesel-in-lake-of-bays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/diesel-in-lake-of-bays\/","title":{"rendered":"An estimated 2,000 litres of diesel spilled in Lake of Bays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change&#8217;s Spills Action Centre received a call from the OPP on Sunday, November 15 reporting a spill of approximately 2,000 litres of diesel fuel at a private residence on Osborne Point Road in Lake of Bays.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong> <broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Ministry staff responded and attended the site and confirmed that diesel fuel from a generator had entered Lake of Bays. A sheen was observed on the lake along the shoreline and in the area surrounding the dock of the property.<\/p>\n<p>The spill was a result of a mechanical failure in the generator at the residence, which resulted in the over-topping of a diesel fuel tank. It was an auto-fill tank and the owners were not at the property when the mechanical failure occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry staff is overseeing cleanup efforts. These  include skimming of the spilled material from the surface of the lake and removal of impacted soils on the property.<\/p>\n<p>A private company from Barrie has been contracted to help with the cleanup at the owner\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45657\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Don&#8217;t miss out on Doppler!
