Moose Delaney’s Midget Hawk Box lacrosse provincial champions ~ <\/em>

Six Huntsville Hawks teams were represented in the Ontario Lacrosse Festival that took place at the beginning of August and the Moose Delaney’s Midget won the C Division Ontario championship.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

R&G Construction Peewees<\/strong>
\nThe R&G Construction Peewees competed in the C Division and won both games defeating South Shore 6-3 and St. Catharines 2 with a score of 5-2. Game three saw the Peewees lose against Peterborough, however they still advanced to the quarter final game facing off against Brantford. Unfortunately, the Peewee Hawks could not pull out a win and their 2019 season had come to an end.<\/p>\n

Preston Heating Tykes<\/strong>
\nThe Preston Heating Tykes competed in the B Division for their Provincial round robin games. The Tykes were able to take their first win over Kawartha with a score of 6-3. Their second game was evenly matched against Wallaceburg and they were able to take the lead winning the game 12-10. For game three, their final round robin game, the Tykes met Barrie. Both teams wanted the win and it was a goal-for-goal. When the clock ran out it was Barrie in the lead over Huntsville 3-2.<\/p>\n

The Preston Heating Tykes were able to keep their first-place pool finish to move on to the quarter finals playing against Cornwall. This was the Hawks final game of their season and it is described as being a \u2018heart-breaker\u2019. The game was very close but Cornwall won 6-5. Wallaceburg became the Division champs and it was very impressive that Huntsville\u2019s team was the one team that was able to beat them over the weekend.<\/p>\n

On Friday, August 9 the Invisible Fence Brand of Muskoka Novice 2, the Moller Insurance Novice 1 and the Moose Delaney’s Midgets all started their journey to the finals.<\/p>\n

Invisible Fence Brand of Muskoka Novice 2<\/strong>
\nThe Invisible Fence Brand of Muskoka Novice 2 (minor) team competed in the D Division with one win against Sudbury 4-2, one tie with Oshawa and one loss to Milton which was a close game. The Novice 2 could not advance to the quarter finals but had fun competing at the Festival.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Moller Insurance Novice<\/strong>
\nWith the Moller Insurance Novice 1’s (major) impressive sixth place finish in the province the team earned their way to compete in the A Division against the top finishing teams in Ontario. In game one, the Novice 1 Hawks played their hardest but lost by only one point to Burlington with a score of 8-7. Their second game had them meet London where the Hawks met their match with a tie game for the first half but then couldn\u2019t take the lead in the second half and they lost 9-3. Knowing that they could not move on to the quarter finals, the team still played the way they have all season – outstanding. They were able to end their season with a win against Brampton 10-4. Caroyln Francis, Director of Media said, \u201cHuntsville is very proud to support a team competing in the A level lacrosse! The Hawks have not won an A banner since 1963.”<\/p>\n

Moose Delaney’s Midgets<\/strong>
\nThe Moose Delaney’s Midgets competed in the C Division with their first game against Oakville 2. Going into the weekend the players had a common goal of team first and to believe in themselves, as they had all year. The Midget Hawks won the game with a shut out 2-0. Game two saw the Huntsville Midgets play against Cambridge with another strong win 4-2. On Saturday, the Midget team won their third game, this time against Simcoe, 5-3. That win earned them a spot in the quarter finals. It was Huntsville versus Orillia. The two teams played against each other throughout their regular season and now had to play one another for the one spot in the semi-finals. It was a very close game for both team but the Hawks were able to steal the win 5-2 which qualified them for the semi-final game on Sunday. Coach Cory Veitch said, \u201cThe boys were committed to a game plan of pressuring their opposition at all points on the floor and a huge shout out to our defense who were exceptional.”<\/p>\n

The Moose Delaney\u2019s Midgets met the Wallaceburg team fighting for the win. Carolyn Francis says that the crowd was impressed by the goalies from both teams as they were not letting the ball in their nets. \u201cThankfully Quinton Greenfield stood tall and secured a 3-1 win to earn the team a championship spot for the second year in a row.”<\/p>\n

Huntsville fans filled the stands to cheer on the Midgets in the Championship game. They were up against Cambridge for the second time that weekend.<\/p>\n

The support from our parents, grandparents, siblings, girlfriends was second to none. And the additional support from other Huntsville players and families did not go unnoticed. It was definitely a Hawks crowd all weekend.
\nCoach Cory Veitch <\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Cambridge was holding strong as the Hawks kept the game going into the first overtime of ten minutes and then in to a sudden death overtime. \u201cFans held their breath until Riley Knox scored the game winner so the team could bring home their second banner and medals in two years!” said Francis. “Many of these kids also won the Field Provincials banner this past spring,” Francis continued. This win brings great pride to Huntsville. I am so proud of each and everyone of our boys on how they represented themselves and Huntsville and District Minor Lacrosse both on and off the floor,” Francis concluded.<\/p>\n

“They earned and deserved to come home as Provincial Champions. Many thanks to this year\u2019s bench staff ~ Ross Clark, Cory Leigh, Dan Ferchat, Chad Pare, Lesley Reynolds and also to Jodie Hanrahan for filling in when needed,\u201d added Veitch.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to all of the Hawks teams that played with heart and dedication throughout the season and representing Huntsville with competitive spirit.<\/p>\n

The Huntsville Hawks will be holding their awards banquet on August 26 to honour and celebrate the coaches, staff, family and players.<\/p>\n
