Debbie Reynolds, President of the Huntsville Jr C Hawks, presented the Muskoka Community Foundation with a donation of $869.00 to the Muskoka Youth Mental Health and Wellness Fund in memory of Quin Groomes. Quin died by suicide in 2018 and his team wanted to pay tribute to their good friend and teammate.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Reynolds noted that \u201craising funds during our opening game in memory of Quin was an easy decision. For the rest of this season the number six will be left open as a year-long tribute to him.”<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Booth, Quin\u2019s mother,
\nsaid that \u201cit is important to raise awareness about mental health struggles amongst young people. It is very real and is happening all of the time and our youth need to know that it is okay to talk about it and not be embarrassed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Booth also remarked that \u201cit is important to support the Muskoka Youth Mental Health and Wellness Fund in order to better support organizations that help kids in Muskoka.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lynn DeCaro, Executive Director of the Muskoka Community Foundation, thanked the Huntsville Jr. C Hawks and Elizabeth Booth for their support of the newly created Muskoka Youth Mental Health and Wellness Fund. \u201cThis fund will
\nprovide financial support through grants to mental health and wellness programs that serve young people in Muskoka. We are hoping that we will be able to award our first grants in 2020.”<\/p>\n

Booth is also planning a fundraising event this October in memory of Quin with the proceeds going to the Muskoka Youth Mental Health and Wellness Fund. More information about the event, as well as tickets, will be available soon.<\/p>\n
