{"id":72232,"date":"2019-07-29T14:54:57","date_gmt":"2019-07-29T18:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=72232"},"modified":"2019-07-29T15:00:11","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T19:00:11","slug":"inaugural-7v7-adult-co-ed-soccer-league-playoffs-a-tight-affair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/inaugural-7v7-adult-co-ed-soccer-league-playoffs-a-tight-affair\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural 7v7 adult co-ed soccer league playoffs a tight affair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>By The Huntsville Soccer Club<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The oft-overused sports term nail-biter was most apt in the first-ever Huntsville 7 v 7 Adult Co-ed Soccer League final on Monday, July 22 at the McCulley-Robertson Sports Complex.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p> The unsponsored Huntsville Blue team capped off an undefeated season when they beat the Algonquin Orthodontics Red team 1-0 in the league final, with the winning goal coming with only three minutes to play in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>It was especially disappointing for Algonquin Orthodontics Red, who just moments before were awarded a penalty kick when a Blue player was called for a handball in the goalkeeper\u2019s box. The subsequent miss proved to be most costly.<\/p>\n<p>Blue captain Chuck Lefebvre, who missed the playoffs with an undisclosed lower body injury, was proud of his team\u2019s effort. Blue defeated Huntsville Green 3-1 in the semi-final round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an awesome year all-around and I really loved playing with this team,\u201d he says. \u201cI wish I could have been there for the playoffs, but I\u2019m so glad we won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the other semi-final, Algonquin Orthondotics Red survived a penalty shootout against Algonquin Orthodontics Purple after playing to a scoreless draw in the match. Great saves by both goalkeepers came down to the final shooter, with the Red team sneaking one in to advance.<\/p>\n<p>This was the second year of 7 v 7 Adult Co-ed League soccer in Huntsville and it was deemed an overall success over the inaugural season. This year\u2019s dedicated participants allowed for the first playoffs and the Huntsville Soccer Club hopes to continue the program\u2019s growth in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was really happy to see such a fun atmosphere and wonderful individuals with a variety of skill levels take part in the program,\u201d says Chris Occhiuzzi, the club\u2019s adult coordinator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
