{"id":71559,"date":"2019-07-16T09:18:02","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T13:18:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=71559"},"modified":"2019-07-17T08:47:35","modified_gmt":"2019-07-17T12:47:35","slug":"the-week-in-local-triathlon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/the-week-in-local-triathlon\/","title":{"rendered":"The week in local triathlon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>By Don McCormick<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The past week has been a very busy one for local triathletes.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>The Gravenhurst Triathlon was held on July 13-14 in near-perfect racing weather. In the Sprint Triathlon, the top local male was Anthony Shearing placing fir<sup>st<\/sup> in his 50-55 age group (AG) and seven<sup>th<\/sup> overall with a time of 1:10.34. The top Huntsville female was Kaitlyn Baker with a fir<sup>st<\/sup> in her 35-39 AG and the six<sup>th<\/sup> female overall.  Carolyn Croxall stood seco<sup>nd<\/sup> to Kaitlyn in the 35-39 AG with a time of 1:21.15. Carl Tusz stood four<sup>th<\/sup> in his 25-29 AG posting a time of 1:20.01. Brian Gray stood four<sup>th<\/sup> in his 55-59 AG with a 1:23.10 posting and Don McCormick placed fir<sup>st<\/sup> in his 75+ AG with a time of 1:32.45. Leigh Fettes was six<sup>th<\/sup> in her 45-49 AG (1:35.11) and Stacy Tinkler placed 17<sup>th<\/sup> in the same AG (1:52.23). Alley Szukalski placed 15<sup>th<\/sup> in her 30-34 AG (1:45.36).<\/p>\n<p>In the Sprint Duathlon, Kat Ahokas placed thi<sup>rd<\/sup> in the 30-39 AG (1:13.38) and Sierra Johnson stood thi<sup>rd<\/sup> in the 20-29 AG (1:34.26).<\/p>\n<p>On the Saturday Nathan Forestall stood thi<sup>rd<\/sup> in his 20-24 AG in the Olympic Distance triathlon (2:38.46). The Olympic distance is twice the Sprint distance.<\/p>\n<p>On the previous weekend, July 7, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/ironman-70-3-muskoka-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ironman 70.3 Muskoka<\/a><\/span> race was held in Huntsville. This has become a huge event with over 1750 people registered. Again the weather was excellent for racing.<\/p>\n<p>Jon Morton was the top local athlete with a fif<sup>th<\/sup> place finish in the M35-39 and 18<sup>th<\/sup> overall (4:28:34). Mark Sinnige was close behind with a thi<sup>rd<\/sup> place finish in the M50-54 (4:45:45). Jess Adam, triathlete and triathlon coach to several local athletes ,was the top local female with thi<sup>rd<\/sup> in the F45-49 (5:09:27). She was the 20<sup>th<\/sup> female overall. Roger Penney was not far behind with a time of 5:17:16, good enough for a 19<sup>th<\/sup> place in the M50-54. Erin Creasor stood 13<sup>th<\/sup> in the F25-29 AG (5:45:55) and Jess Craymer placed 14<sup>th<\/sup> in the F25-29 AG with a time of 5:46:55. Erin Roebuck had a 37<sup>th<\/sup> place finish in the F35-39 (6:41:30) and Catherine Zacal finished 36<sup>th<\/sup> in the F45-49 with a 6:52:05 posting. Allan Bruce rounded the local entries with a 58<sup>th<\/sup> place in the M55-59 (7:29:44).<\/p>\n<p>The local triathletes will be competing in the upcoming Bracebridge, Barrie, Orillia triathlons and other events over the summer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
