{"id":71441,"date":"2019-07-12T14:18:31","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T18:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=71441"},"modified":"2019-08-22T20:35:52","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T00:35:52","slug":"new-retail-stores-and-second-storey-apartments-planned-for-former-td-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/new-retail-stores-and-second-storey-apartments-planned-for-former-td-building\/","title":{"rendered":"New retail stores and second storey apartment planned for former TD building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are exciting plans afoot for the former TD building on Huntsville\u2019s Main Street.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Ben Jardine of Greystone Project Management was before Huntsville\u2019s planning committee on July 10 representing the building\u2019s new owners. He said the idea is to bring back some of the traditional architecture of the building, a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles designed in 1926 by renowned architect John Macintosh Lyle whose more recognized work includes the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto and the Memorial Arch at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, as well as contributions to Toronto\u2019s Union Station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re very much trying to bring back the traditional, original architecture of the building, again highlighting the limestone mouldings, adding the inscribed signage over the central door, reverting the main entrance from the right side of the building back to the centre and then bringing back many of the original glazing details,\u201d said Jardine.<\/p>\n<p>A modern, residential second storey will be added to the building while the main floor will serve as retail space for two new stores \u2014 one with access off Main Street and the other to be accessed from the River Mill Park side of the building.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfe Co. Apparel and Goods will be located on Huntsville\u2019s Main Street and Zahara\u2019s Boutique will be located on the King Street\/River Mill Park side of the building.<\/p>\n<p>The committee was pleased with the presentation and the site plan was approved. I'll never really be a local - I still react to blackflies and mosquito bites - but Huntsville is the longest I\u2019ve ever lived anywhere and when your parents are gypsies you live in a lot of places. That's because I love this community. I love the wide open spaces, ancient rocks, lakes and forests. I also love the buzz of Huntsville's core and, well, the wi-fi. I'm a news and chocolate junkie.
