For the past four years, Mark’s Ride has raised funds to help law students from Muskoka with the cost of their education.<\/p>\n

The ride is in memory of Mark Reid, a local lawyer who loved his profession and loved cycling. The first Mark’s Ride was organized shortly after his death on August 13, 2015.<\/p>\n

For the first three years, Mark’s Ride participants cycled through beautiful Algonquin Park but in its fourth year ride organizers weren’t able to obtain a permit for the ride due to construction. Instead, Muskoka Brewery chose Mark\u2019s Ride as the recipient of its charity ride and organizers instead hosted a concert in Huntsville featuring Craig Cardiff. Everyone enjoyed the event so much last year that a Craig Cardiff concert, BBQ, and silent auction will happen again on Sunday, September 1, 2019. Proceeds from the event will go to the 2020 Mark\u2019s Ride law scholarship.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, local law students can apply for the 2019 scholarship. Applicants must be residents of Muskoka who are entering law school in September of this year or are currently enrolled in a law school, with studies in law continuing in September of this year.<\/p>\n

To apply, submit a letter to the selection committee before August 1, 2019 which best describes you, your life, your experiences, your hopes for your future and your interests both in and outside of law. The letter should be no more than 600 words and can be submitted to application@marksride.ca.<\/p>\n

The scholarship shall be awarded to the applicant who, in the committee\u2019s sole discretion, it considers most worthy, having regard to the applicant\u2019s letter and the committee\u2019s understanding of the values Mark Reid found most important.<\/p>\n
