{"id":67642,"date":"2019-05-24T18:24:49","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T22:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=67642"},"modified":"2019-05-24T18:27:21","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T22:27:21","slug":"opp-warn-of-danger-of-purple-heroin-after-recent-deaths-in-huntsville-and-muskoka-lakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/opp-warn-of-danger-of-purple-heroin-after-recent-deaths-in-huntsville-and-muskoka-lakes\/","title":{"rendered":"OPP warn of danger of purple heroin after recent deaths in Huntsville and Muskoka Lakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over the last week members of the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been assisting the Office of the Chief Coroner in several death investigations in the Huntsville and Muskoka Lakes area.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p> Police believe the recent deaths may be associated to an unusually potent strain of purple heroin. &#8220;Purple&#8221; or &#8220;Purp&#8221; is heroin that has been mixed with substances such as fentanyl or carfentanil.<\/p>\n<p>The Simcoe\/Muskoka District Health unit describes fentanyl and carfentanil as:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7      a powerful synthetic opioid<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7      Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine and 40 times stronger than heroin.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7      Carfentanil is intended for veterinary use as a sedative for large animals. It is 100 times more potent than Fentanyl and 10,000 times more so than morphine.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing investigation into the deaths will continue by members of the Huntsville OPP Crime Unit and Community Street Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Matt Watson of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.<\/p>\n<p>Recognize the signs of someone experiencing an overdose: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/get-naloxone-kits-free#section-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/get-naloxone-kits-free%23section-4&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1558821889365000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGAmhu6qq8YuRQVu__f45yTIsM0Mg\">https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/<wbr \/>get-naloxone-kits-free#<wbr \/>section-4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police are asking anyone with information to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
