{"id":64531,"date":"2019-04-06T12:32:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T16:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=64531"},"modified":"2019-04-06T12:37:57","modified_gmt":"2019-04-06T16:37:57","slug":"athlete-of-the-week-logan-mcknight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/athlete-of-the-week-logan-mcknight\/","title":{"rendered":"Athlete of the Week: Logan McKnight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He is the consummate professional on the diamond and in the community and a great ambassador for the Hornets program and the region of Muskoka.&#8221; That&#8217;s how Peter Haynes, president of the Muskoka Hornets Baseball Association, describes Logan McKnight, who he coached for all nine of Logan&#8217;s years as a Hornet.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"69896\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>McKnight, who is from Port Sydney and graduated from Huntsville High School in 2018, has been playing baseball for 13 years. He is a pitcher, an outfielder, a first baseman, and a left-handed batter who hits with power.  And he loves his sport. &#8220;I play because I love the game. I love throwing, hitting, running and catching,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n<p>In his first eight years playing with the Hornets, McKnight was chosen as the Most Valuable Player seven times (the 2018 MVP award won&#8217;t be announced until the Hornets&#8217; annual ceremony and spaghetti dinner fundraiser on May 17, 2019). He was also a two-time All Star for the EBLO (Elite Baseball League Ontario) and an All Star for the YSBA (York Simcoe Baseball Association) and Baseball Ontario&#8217;s Elite loop.<\/p>\n<p>Haynes says that McKnight had a professional work ethic and always led by example. &#8220;He was first to the gym or first to the park. He was the hardest working player on the field and worked hard away from the diamond to ply his trade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the left-handed pitcher had &#8220;great control and good game management and was regularly the team&#8217;s Friday starter,&#8221; notes Haynes. &#8220;Logan is a person I am proud to have coached and someone Muskoka should be proud to call its own.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_64533\" style=\"width: 716px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-64533\" class=\"size-full wp-image-64533\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/04\/Logan-McKnight-2.jpg\" alt=\"Logan McKnight on the pitcher's mound\" width=\"706\" height=\"708\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-64533\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Logan McKnight on the pitcher&#8217;s mound<\/p><\/div>\n<p>McKnight wants to be able to play baseball for as long as he can. During his senior year of high school he was offered spots at several different post-secondary schools, including some U.S. colleges. He felt that the University of Western Ontario had the best combination of education and athletics, and recently enrolled at Western to study Kinesiology beginning in September 2019. There he will also play for the Mustangs baseball program.<\/p>\n<p>He is one of nine former Muskoka Hornets players that have committed to play baseball at the post-secondary level next year.<\/p>\n<p>McKnight thanks the Hornets program for allowing its players to achieve their milestones and play at the next level in their sport, as well as teaching the players valuable life lessons that they can apply to the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p><em>Photos courtesy of Logan McKnight<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
