{"id":62733,"date":"2019-02-28T12:50:19","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T17:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=62733"},"modified":"2019-02-28T13:50:44","modified_gmt":"2019-02-28T18:50:44","slug":"the-tom-thomson-tour-boat-will-see-another-day-says-owner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/the-tom-thomson-tour-boat-will-see-another-day-says-owner\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tom Thomson tour boat will see another day, says owner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This Tom Thomson isn&#8217;t losing its life in the water,&#8221; said Stephen Wyllie, owner of Algonquin Cruises and the Tom Thomson tour boat, the morning after news began circulating that the boat had sunk in the Muskoka River.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>A crew worked furiously into the evening to get the boat floating again and clean up any spills. They were back at it this morning and the boat was upright once again.<\/p>\n<p>Wyllie explained that a thru-hull valve had been left open, which resulted in the boat slowly taking on water and eventually sinking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It took nine pumps and a lot of determination and the coast guard was great, they helped a lot,&#8221; said Wyllie of getting the boat upright and cleaning up any oil in the water. He said there was a &#8220;very minimal&#8221; amount of oil spillage because the boat was not in the water long, and because everything is sealed any spill would be slow. &#8220;Everything&#8217;s sealed so it&#8217;s very slow. It all floats up to the water, there&#8217;s ice there so there&#8217;s nowhere for it to go so we&#8217;ve been mopping it up,&#8221; he assured. &#8220;As soon as we got there we put down an oil sock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The boat was obviously insured, he said, but insurance only goes so far. The good news is that damage to the boat was not too extensive, according to Wyllie. &#8220;We&#8217;ve just got to get water out of the motor, get some heat in there and change the oil three or four times&#8230; I could have it ready and good-to-go if I wanted to in three days.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The boat will continue to be docked at its current location by Alberto Salon and Spa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The boat&#8217;s much nicer on the top of the water,&#8221; quipped Wyllie who despite having to spend a significant amount of money to clean up the mess and get the boat upright, seemed to remain in good spirits. &#8220;You know when you have a boat they go to the bottom sometimes,&#8221; he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Read the initial story here: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/tour-boat-sinks-off-docks-by-canada-summit-centre\/\">Tom Thomson tour boat sinks off docks by Canada Summit Centre<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Don\u2019t miss out on Doppler!
