Staff at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) are feeling pretty good these days.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

The healthcare organization was awarded the highest possible rating from Accreditation<\/span> Canada<\/a> \u2013 Accredited<\/span> with Exemplary Standing<\/span><\/i> under the Qmentum<\/a> accreditation<\/span> program.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The decision follows MAHC\u2019s onsite survey across both sites by an external survey team in December 2018 as part of an ongoing accreditation process to ensure high-quality care and safety in every facet of hospital operations.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The accreditation process is voluntary and conducted by third-party Accreditation Canada, a not-for-profit organization, which evaluates health and social organizations against best-in-class standards established by their affiliate, Health Standards Organization (HSO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the four-day survey with five Accreditation<\/span> Canada surveyors, it was determined that MAHC met 100% of all required organization practices and 98.4 per cent of the high priority and other criteria. In total, more than 2,400 standards were assessed, examining all aspects of health care and organizational practices from patient safety and ethics, to staff training and partnering with the community, governance, and communication.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The process is about constantly improving the quality of care provided to patients by ensuring the organization is meeting national standards of care, according to Natalie Bubela, Chief Executive Officer for MAHC.<\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cAccredited<\/span> with Exemplary Standing<\/span> means our organization has attained the highest level of performance excellence in meeting the requirements of the accreditation<\/span> program,\u201d says Bubela. \u201cThis award is the direct result of every team member\u2019s commitment to high-quality care and patient safety and a designation that everyone at MAHC can be proud to be a part of. It is a true testament to our commitment to providing safe, high-quality health services.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The Board of Directors is equally thrilled with the accreditation<\/span> decision of exemplary standing<\/span>.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cQuality and safety are at the core of MAHC\u2019s operations,\u201d says Board Chair Phil Matthews. \u201cOur communities should also feel pride and confidence in the hospitals that serve them each and every day and that in spite of our financial challenges and constraints we have maintained an unrelenting focus on quality and safety, which was apparent to the surveyors.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

The focus of accreditation<\/span> is on the processes used to deliver care, not on individual health care providers. The whole organization is involved in the accreditation<\/span> survey, from front-line staff and volunteers to board members, patients, and families.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

In the decision report, the survey team highlighted the great collaboration between MAHC\u2019s two sites, the congenial and supportive teamwork of staff and physicians, as well as the strong governance and leadership of the organization.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a significant milestone in our ongoing quality improvement and safety journey, and is momentum the organization will continue to build upon as we recognize that the standards we are measured against today are constantly changing and our efforts to maintain this exemplary standing<\/span> must continue,\u201d says Bubela. \u201cHealth care accreditation<\/span> helps identify what an organization is doing well and where to focus its improvement efforts.\u201d<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

Building on this award, MAHC will continue efforts to improve the quality and safety of services and processes. MAHC\u2019s next accreditation will take place in 2022. Accreditation takes place every four years.<\/p>\n

Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller issued a release in January, congratulating both MAHC and West Parry Sound Health Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased that both MAHC and West Parry Sound Health Centre have voluntarily participated in this accreditation<\/span> process and received the highest accreditation<\/span>, demonstrating their interest in constantly improving the care they offer to our residents and visitors,\u201d stated Miller. \u201cResidents across Parry Sound-Muskoka can be assured that they will receive high-quality care in any of our hospital facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
