(Photo: <\/span><span class=\"_247o\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\" spellcheck=\"false\" data-offset-key=\"b41rl-1-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"b41rl-1-0\">Muskoka Heritage Place<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\" data-offset-key=\"b41rl-2-0\"> Collection)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Wayback Wednesday is sponsored by Cavalcade Color Lab<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"48158\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Last week we shared this photo with you:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-60644 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/01\/Wayback-Wednesday-2019-2-Snow-removal-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"707\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/01\/Wayback-Wednesday-2019-2-Snow-removal-cropped-630x299.jpg 630w, https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2019\/01\/Wayback-Wednesday-2019-2-Snow-removal-cropped.jpg 707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this 1960s image, note the absence of stoplights at the corner of Main and Centre, that this road was still called Hwy 11B, that the Empire Hotel was still standing, and that parking meters still line the street.<\/p>\n<p>Doppler reader Brian Tapley shared these details with us:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One thing I do remember from the 60s was that they used to remove one section of railing from the main street bridge and the trucks would back up to that spot and dump the snow directly into the river, snow, ice, sand and dog poop\u2026 it all went straight in but it never seemed to hurt anything. I\u2019m not sure where they dump it now.<br \/>\nThe main street bridge had an open grill work deck at that time and somehow they had it set up as a three lane bridge to allow left turns down beside the river toward what is now Boston Pizza. The grill was good in some ways as the snow just fell through it but on some mornings it would be covered with ice and very slippery and if you rode a small motorcycle it could \u201cwalk\u201d sideways at an alarming rate depending on your tires. Best not to put a bike on it\u2019s side on the grill work\u2026 the results were always bad.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And David Johns shared: &#8220;Love the chains on the Tractors tires.
