On snowy days, the Town of Huntsville\u2019s Public Works Department has almost 500 kilometres of local roads to clear as quickly as possible. It\u2019s a big task and they\u2019ve put some new procedures in place this year to help streamline it, says Lee Ripenburg, the Town\u2019s Manager of Operations.<\/p>\n

Public Works staff monitor roads around the clock and, new this year, plow drivers are on two shifts\u2014from 4 a.m. to noon and from noon to 8 p.m.\u2014which has increased the amount of plowing time per day by four hours or more. The Town has hired more drivers and the number of routes has been reduced from nine to seven\u2014you may see your route plowed at a different time but it will likely be plowed more frequently if needed.<\/p>\n

Be patient\u2014it does take time for the Town\u2019s plows, graders, and sanders to clear the 340 kilometres of paved roads plus another 150 kilometres or so of gravel roads. The faster they can clear those routes, the sooner you\u2019ll be able to get around with ease so keep the list below in mind:<\/p>\n
