On Sunday, October 25, several members of the MBRP Major Midget Otters family gave back to their community by assisting with a garden edging project for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. The work was the latest in a series of beautification efforts around the Hospital before the winter season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to give back to the community and gain volunteer community hours for their High School curriculum,\u201d said organizer Cheryl Perry of the project. “We don’t often have needs of this sort so it’s a first for the Otters.”<\/p>\n

In addition to the players, several parents were also available to lend a hand, and the team was able to lay a large amount of stone in a short time period.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the Otters travelled to the Bobby Orr Community Centre for an 8:30 pm rematch with the Parry Sound Shamrocks. The Otters started the game aggressively against the hard checking Shamrocks, but found themselves down early on a poorly timed pinch in their defensive zone. The home team continued to pour on the pressure, and less than two minutes later went up 2-0 off a re-directed shot from the point through traffic.<\/p>\n

Rallying together to respond, the Otters picked up the pace midway through the first period as Evan Dickson assisted Jacob Schnurr for a goal to cut the deficit to just one goal. A solid pace continued in the second period with Schnuur and Cody Jones getting a great look during a two-on-one breakaway, but the score would remain 2-1 as the Parry Sound netminder stood tall. Pressuring hard for the tying goal, Otter\u2019s defenseman Quinn Thompson nearly found the equalizer with a hard slap shot from the point, as forwards Connor White and Cole Earl crashed the net for the rebound, but again the Shamrocks goaltender was able to make the save.<\/p>\n

At the other end of the ice, Otters netminder Scott Perry made several highlight reel saves to keep his team within one, while Wyatt Boothby and Adam Long did a great job at holding the blue line and standing up the opposition with multiple hits each during the frame. There was no shortage of pushing and shoving in front of both nets heading into the third, as the teams traded roughing penalties back and forth. The Otters had another chance to find the tying goal on a powerplay with the clock winding down, but couldn’t solve the Parry Sound goalie as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the Shamrocks. The Otters and Shamrocks will play again next Saturday October 31st in a Halloween showdown<\/sup>.<\/p>\n
