{"id":58970,"date":"2018-12-02T05:10:13","date_gmt":"2018-12-02T10:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=58970"},"modified":"2018-12-02T05:10:13","modified_gmt":"2018-12-02T10:10:13","slug":"athletes-of-the-week-siblings-kyra-and-teagan-meredith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/athletes-of-the-week-siblings-kyra-and-teagan-meredith\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletes of the week: Siblings Kyra and Teagan Meredith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kyra Meredith and Teagan Meredith are both alumni from the Huntsville Hawks minor lacrosse association and have both won championships with their teams in their post-secondary years.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Kyra played for the Hawks for only a couple of years before moving on to play girls field lacrosse for the Orillia Lady Kings until she completed her U19 season. She then joined the Senior Lady Kings for their inaugural season where the team won the provincial championships in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In Kyra\u2019s last year at Huntsville High School (HHS), she was named Female Athlete of the Year and was an instrumental part in starting up the girl\u2019s high school lacrosse team which she then returned to help coach after her first year at university.<\/p>\n<p>Teagan also grew up playing minor lacrosse from the age of four and he helped his Novice team win the provincial championships. During his second year of Peewee he was chosen to play for Team Ontario and his team became national champions that summer. For two years, Teagan played on the Junior C Hawks team in Huntsville before moving on to play Junior B in Orillia for the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from HHS, both siblings moved away from Huntsville to attend Western University where their love for lacrosse continued.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_58974\" style=\"width: 1090px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58974\" class=\"size-full wp-image-58974\" src=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2018\/12\/20181201_134020.jpg\" alt=\"Siblings Kyra and Teagan Meredith share a love for lacrosse\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2018\/12\/20181201_134020-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2018\/12\/20181201_134020-725x1024.jpg 725w, https:\/\/media-doppleronline-ca.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com\/2018\/12\/20181201_134020.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-58974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Siblings Kyra and Teagan Meredith share a love for lacrosse (supplied)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kyra became a member of the Western Mustangs women&#8217;s lacrosse team where her team won the championships during her first year. They finished fifth overall this fall.<\/p>\n<p>Teagan joined the Western Mustang men&#8217;s lacrosse team. During his first year, the Mustangs lost in the Bagataway Cup final (the national university championship) but for the last three consecutive years his team has won the title.<\/p>\n<p>Kyra\u2019s plan is to continue her studies at Western and to play lacrosse for the Mustangs while at school, and she looks forward to returning to her home town of Huntsville in the spring to assist in coaching the HHS girls lacrosse team.<\/p>\n<p>Teagan will be graduating with an honours degree in Accounting from the Ivy Business School at Western University this fall and has retained a position with Deloitte Canada as an auditor in their real estate division.
