For the 12th year in a row, staff at Huntsville’s Brokerlink branch have supported the Canadian Cancer Society with a donation for breast cancer research.<\/p>\n

The $1,306.30 they raised was thanks to both donations at the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day BBQ they co-hosted on October 5 as well as contributions from the insurance company and other local businesses.<\/p>\n

“I’m really glad it has continued on for so many years,” said Diane Kirby, who took over as Brokerlink’s branch manager earlier this year when Wendy McConnell retired after 30 years<\/a><\/span>. “I hope we can continue it for many more.”<\/p>\n

Kirby added that the cause is near and dear to the branch because each of the staff have connections to people who have or have had breast cancer. “We are all touched by this in some way.”<\/p>\n

Joan Crann, from the local Canadian Cancer Society committee<\/a><\/span>, said that they are very appreciative of the support. “You don’t find a family without a (breast cancer) story.”<\/p>\n

In 2017, an estimated 26,300 women were diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,000 women died from breast cancer. On average, 72 Canadian women were diagnosed with breast cancer every day, 14 Canadian women died from breast cancer every day, 230 men were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 60 men died from breast cancer. If you missed the barbecue and still want to support the society, donations can be made online at cancer.ca<\/span><\/a>. Local Canadian Cancer Society volunteers will also be wrapping gifts at Huntsville Place Mall from December 21-24 in exchange for donations.<\/p>\n

Kirby thanked BBQ co-hosts Kawartha Credit Union, The BIke Shop in Huntsville, The Hunt House, Muskoka Hearing Aids, Relief Massage Therapy and Canoe Dental, as well as event sponsors Autosave Collision, Crawford and Company, Economical Insurance, Edmonds Chevrolet Buick GMC, Jevco, Muskoka Auto Salon, WINMAR, Intact Insurance, Festing Toyota, Wagg’s, Muskoka Rent-All and Bullock’s Independent Grocer for their support of the barbecue and the cause.<\/p>\n
