\"\"Meet Dan Armour, a candidate for election to Huntsville Council in the ward of Brunel<\/strong><\/p>\n

I would like to thank Doppler for all the election coverage over the past few months. Well it\u2019s Wed Oct 17th and voting is well underway with only five days left. Be sure to exercise your right and vote for who you feel will best represent you and our amazing community.<\/p>\n

I am very excited, proud and honoured to have this opportunity for a second term as Brunel Ward Councillor and look forward to continuing to work for you the constituents. We all know that Huntsville has challenges. These aren\u2019t small issues and will need long-term solutions. Having a council that has been involved in the issues for the past four years will provide foresight into future decision making.<\/p>\n

As the incumbent I will continue to show strong leadership as we go forward. I will continue to advocate for acute and emergency hospital services in Huntsville. As a Paramedic in Muskoka for the past 31 years, I have seen many changes in our health care and the services they have been providing. It was a relief when the Task Force recommended the two site model and the endorsement by the MAHC board. But our work is not done; we must continue to be part of the conversations as we go forward with the development stage.<\/p>\n

Funding active transportation infrastructure needs to be addressed. There are many people who are unable to enjoy our wonderful community due to lack of affordable transportation services. We need to invest in our public transit system because it too is an important part of our affordable housing project. With affordable transportation those who have a home are able get to work and home without the extra cost of owning a vehicle. We all know that affordable housing plays a critical role in the stability and security of many individuals and families in our community. Housing offers a meaningful place in the community, a safe place for families to grow. When housing is affordable in a community it can provide stability to residents and help to build a strong community that could attract new businesses to the area. As we go forward council needs to continue to invest in our infrastructure of roads, bridges and culverts. If we want to keep our community welcoming to visitors and vibrant, we must start with the infrastructure that is the pillar of our community. Our commitment of increasing the roads budget must continue into the next term of council so we can meet the demands of tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Our community needs to maintain our small town feel, so tourist economics can continue. People come from all over the world to see our beautiful community and we have a responsibility to protect that for generations to come. We need to limit lake development so one of our primary commodities is preserved.<\/p>\n

I look forward to continuing to work on the streetscape project and supporting our local sports groups in their endeavors like the curling club and the journey into a multipurpose facility.<\/p>\n

Having the opportunity to continue to represent Brunel Ward and Huntsville as their councillor is extremely exciting. I feel what Brunel Ward has been missing is longevity, continuation and continuity and that\u2019s what I bring by being elected for a second term. Currently I\u2019m the chair of Public Works, and a member of the Accessibility Committee. I work for Muskoka Paramedic Services as a Commander. I served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Town of Huntsville for 20 years, and I continue to canvas for the Canadian Cancer Society, and have for the last 11 years. I believe in giving back to my community that continues to give to me.<\/p>\n

When you go to vote, you are choosing the person who will best represent you, Brunel and Huntsville. A candidate, who has proven that you can trust them, will be honest with you, will be approachable and will also take the time to listen to you. I believe I have proven this over the past four years.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m here willing and able to continue to face the challenges over the next four years. Your support, your trust and your vote on Election Day is greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n
