{"id":55372,"date":"2018-09-17T05:55:17","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T09:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/huntsville.dopperonline.ca\/?p=55372"},"modified":"2018-09-16T21:31:19","modified_gmt":"2018-09-17T01:31:19","slug":"district-says-it-is-taking-steps-to-prevent-future-sewage-backups-in-fairy-lake-neighbourhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/district-says-it-is-taking-steps-to-prevent-future-sewage-backups-in-fairy-lake-neighbourhood\/","title":{"rendered":"District says it is taking steps to prevent future sewage backups in Fairy Lake neighbourhood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by District staff into the second sewage backup in a Fairy Lake neighbourhood in less than a year has pegged the cause on an electrical failure at its Hwy. 60 Coveside pumping station.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/district-investigating-second-sewage-back-up-impacting-huntsville-neighbourhood-in-less-than-a-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The latest incident<\/a><\/span> took place on Aug. 29, 2018. Sewage backed up into six homes along Szawlowski Drive. At the time, the District said it was investigating the incident and dispatched a private contractor to clean up the mess. Staff has since told Doppler that no sewage had made it into the lake.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; margin-right: 14px;\"><strong><broadstreet-zone zone-id=\"45658\" keywords=\"\" soft-keywords=\"true\" zone-alias=\"\"><\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>In correspondence on Thursday, Sept. 13, District Communications Officer Molly Ross issued a statement via email saying the investigation \u201cdetermined that the cause was linked to the electrical control systems and back up alarms for the pumping station.\u201d She also stated that the investigation had confirmed that the Aug. 29 incident \u201cwas not linked to the causes of the back up last year in the similar area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/huntsville-homes-businesses-flooded-sewage-district-investigating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A similar incident took place last October<\/span><\/a>, also impacting several homes on the same road as well as businesses along Hwy. 60. At the time, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/doppleronline.ca\/huntsville\/district-says-investigating-system-failure-caused-sewage-back-area-homes-businesses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the District issued a press release<\/a><\/span> stating that the Coveside pumping station failed when the pumps turned off automatically and no alarms were triggered.<\/p>\n<p>Several steps are being taken to ensure sewage backups do not reoccur, stated Ross in further email correspondence.
