Mother Nature’s torrential rains over the past weeks have impacted four municipal culverts.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

A culvert on Silver Sands Road collapsed forcing the road to be temporarily closed on Wednesday (Aug. 29). A private contractor was on-site trying to make the road passable. One lane of the road was reopened to traffic late afternoon on Wednesday. Work on that road continues.<\/p>\n

The weather has also wreaked havoc on many other roads and culverts throughout the municipality. Three other culverts were impacted on Williamsport Road, Old North Road and Westpoint Sands Road. On Monday, Huntsville Councillor Dan Armour told his fellow councillors that the cost of repairing or replacing all four culverts is estimated to be $150,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve lost some major culverts,” he said. “These need to be repaired immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Armour said some scheduled paving projects may have to be deferred in order to address the culverts. He told councillors any budget deviations related to public works will be brought forward by Director of Operations and Protective Services Steve Hernen.<\/p>\n

Torrential rains Tuesday night also caused some minor washouts throughout the municipality.<\/p>\n
