The Huntsville Otters (4-2-1) set the table on Thanksgiving Sunday, scoring four powerplay goals en route to an 8-1 rout of the Erin Shamrocks (3-5-1) at the Canada Summit Centre.<\/p>\n

<\/broadstreet-zone><\/strong><\/div>\n

Andy Baker, Jake McIntyre and Jared Stevens all recorded four point afternoons, with Baker and McIntyre scoring a pair of goals and assists each while Stevens also added a goal and three helpers. Backup goaltender Jamie Gee made 28 saves in his first start of the season.<\/p>\n

The Otters offense got things started with first period goals from Stevens and McIntyre to put the home team up 2-0 heading into the intermission. The offensive onslaught continued in the second, with Kyle Burns making the score 3-0 before the Shamrocks were finally able to respond.<\/p>\n

It was all Huntsville from there, as Baker, McIntyre, Tyler Kalbe and Dylan McEachran all scored to increase the lead to 8-1 in a game that saw 23 penalties handed out in the second and third periods.<\/p>\n

With the win, the Otters moved to fifth in the league standings at nine points (and one point behind both Stayner and Penetang), despite playing fewer games than any other team this season.<\/p>\n

The Otters played a close game on Friday night against the third-place Penetang Kings (5-3-0), but couldn\u2019t find an extra gear late in the contest as they fell 5-3 on the road in just their second loss of the season.<\/p>\n

The action got heated in the third period of Sunday’s game against the Erin Shamrocks<\/p><\/div>\n

After Stevens opened the scoring with a powerplay goal for the Otters in the first period, the Kings responded with three unanswered tallies, one in the second and two in the third. Down 3-1 with less than five minutes to play, Kyle Burns made things close with a powerplay marker from Baker and Kalbe, only to see the Kings restore their two-goal lead a minute and a half later.<\/p>\n

Refusing to go down without a fight, Burns scored his second of the period and third point of the night 63 seconds later to cut the lead to 4-3, before the Kings potted an empty netter in the dying seconds to seal the win. Connor Christanson made 36 saves in the loss as the Otters powerplay went 2-for-9 while their penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5.<\/p>\n

Baker is currently tied for second in the GBMOJCHL with 15 points in seven games played, while McIntyre is seventh with 11 points. The Otters next game will come at home this Friday, October 18 at 8:00 pm against the Schomburg Cougars (4-4-1).<\/p>\n
