If you love to read, you won’t want to miss this summer’s author series jointly hosted by the Huntsville Public Library<\/a><\/span> and the Lake of Bays Public Libraries<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Unlike many author events which are often a presentation by a single author or a discussion hosted by a moderator, the Books and Brunch series primarily features several authors discussing their books and creative process in an informal chat. And there’s delicious food prepared by the culinary team at Hidden Valley Resort, too.<\/p>\n

“I love that the libraries are joining forces to celebrate some really talented Canadian authors and they are all coming to talk about their incredible works,” says Deborah Duce, CEO\/Chief Librarian at Huntsville Public Library.<\/p>\n

“Readers love to meet the authors behind the books and learn about the process that went into the creation of their works,” adds Cathy Fairbairn, CEO\/Branch Librarian at Dwight Public Library.<\/p>\n

All of the authors in the 2018 series have brand new or almost new releases and two of them have local connections\u2014Amy Stuart began her first book at the Muskoka Novel Marathon and often writes at her family’s cottage in Dwight, and John Little is from Bracebridge. All of the featured books will be available for sale at each event and the authors will make time at the end of the discussion to sign books so you can meet them personally.<\/p>\n

“I would encourage people to come and see all of the authors because there is such a variety,” says Cortney LeGros, Coordinator, Outreach, Programs & Partnerships. “We have some mystery, some suspense, some non-fiction, some young adult. There\u2019s really something for everybody and you are opening your horizons to new writers, new genres and new styles.”<\/p>\n

The 2018 Books and Brunch series will introduce readers to these writers:<\/p>\n

Sue Morris, a member of the Huntsville Public Library board is the person behind the enticing author selections for the series. She often drives to author events across the province and thought that an informal literary series would be a great thing to bring to Huntsville.<\/p>\n

“We have lots of music and art (in Huntsville) but the literary part was kind of missing for me,” says Morris. “I thought it would be really cool to bring that experience to the community. We are extremely lucky that authors of this calibre are coming here so we don\u2019t have to travel to see them. You\u2019re not going to find this in another community.” These types of events may occur in other communities and other communities may have local authors, but this type of books and brunch series, is unique to our local communities, she adds.<\/p>\n

Morris calls herself a voracious reader and says she enjoyed all of the books represented in the series. She even had the opportunity to read an advance copy of John Little’s book Who Killed Tom Thomson?<\/em> which won’t be released until August. She’s looking forward to hearing the authors speak about what went into the writing of their books.<\/p>\n

“You get insight into creative process and then you engage with the book in a much more personal way because you have heard its creator speak. It\u2019s fascinating,” says Morris. “If you like reading or you aspire to be a writer, you are getting to hear someone speak directly about the creative process. Quite often I have read the book and then hear author speak and often want to go and read it again because I read it in a different way.”<\/p>\n

Tickets for the series and for each individual event are on sale now for $27 per event or $75 for the series of three. Brunch at Hidden Valley Resort is included. Get yours by visiting or calling one of the library locations: Huntsville Public Library (705-789-5232), Dwight Public Library (705-635-3319) and Baysville Public Library (705-767-2361). There are only 100 tickets available per event and they are selling quickly.<\/p>\n

“It feels like you are sitting in the living room with these authors because they are sharing personal stories and they are sharing their struggles and their journey with writing. You don\u2019t often get to hear that side,” says LeGros. “When you\u2019re reading a book and you think \u2018Oh, I\u2019d love to meet this person,’ this is the closest you are going to get to feeling like you know them, I think.”<\/p>\n
