Huntsville High School (HHS) showed the strength of its Track and Field team last week. Thirty-three students represented the Hoyas at the GBSSA (Georgian Bay Secondary School Association) regional finals on May 23. The athletes qualified to compete in 50 different events.<\/p>\n
Team coordinator, Catherine Smith, said the day was blistering hot and the students were experiencing heat exhaustion due to the muggy weather. But they did not let the long day get in the way of great performances and a display of good character. Everyone kept a good, positive attitude and cheered on their teammates all day long.<\/p>\n
Top standings were achieved by Cam Heinz who placed second in the 1500m just milliseconds behind the first-place finisher. He also qualified for OFSAA for the Steeplechase event.<\/p>\n
Gabby Arsenault took first in her heat for the 100m race and then had a photo finish in the final to place second. She also took second place in the 200m race.<\/p>\n
Adam Dupuis competed in five different events and placed third in the 800m race and fourth in the 1500m Junior age category.<\/p>\n
Zak Varieur placed fourth in the Midget 1500m race<\/p>\n
Judah Meaker took fourth in the Senior 1500m race.<\/p>\n
Emma Elliott competed in the 100m race and also placed fourth.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
